Comms rooms and cabling, surveyed by walking through them
Racks, patch panels, switches, access points, fibre, and the UPS that keeps it all up through load-shedding. Integrators walk a site before they quote a cabling job or a Wi-Fi rollout. IT teams walk their own comms rooms to find what needs fixing. Either way, film the walk and talk over it, and SightWalk drafts the survey for you to check.
What it sounds like
"Admin block, ground floor comms room. Rack's full, no blanking panels, patch leads everywhere and nothing on the patch panel is labelled. Photo. UPS is beeping, battery fault on the display. Photo. Aircon's off and the room is warm."
- Three findings, each with a still from the video: the cabling, the UPS and the cooling.
- An integrator turns the checked lines into quote lines: re-patch and label, replacement batteries, an aircon call-out.
- An IT team sends each one to the people who do the work: the cabling to the cabling team, the UPS to power, the aircon to facilities.
Made-up example.
For integrators: the survey before the quote
On a pre-sales walk you count data points, measure runs, look for space in the rack and check there is power and an earth where the new kit goes. Say the counts out loud as you go, "twelve data points on this floor, double faceplates in every office", and they arrive on the draft as quantities. Once you have checked the draft, the lines go to a quote in Odoo with your own products and labour rates.
For IT teams: findings as tickets
Schools, hospitals, offices and mines often have comms rooms spread over many buildings or sites. Walk them on a schedule. Each finding becomes a ticket for the right team, whether that is cabling, network, power, cooling or facilities, with the photo and a link to that moment in the video. When the ticket is closed, the assessment shows the finding as resolved.
What it doesn't do
SightWalk doesn't test or certify cabling, and it doesn't scan your network. Your cable tester and your monitoring tools carry on as before. SightWalk covers what you can see and say on the walk: the state of the room, the cabling and the kit, and the work they need.
The reference list covers the wiring code for the power side and the usual cabling and telecoms-space standards. Your qualified person checks each one before your reports cite it.
